How to Properly Fill Out a 9-Ball Score Sheet

A

This is your team number. The first 2 numbers are your division numbers, the second 2 numbers indicate your position on the schedule. Make sure that you have the proper score sheet for you team prior to the start of play. Please write this number on the front of your weekly envelope, also.
B

This is the week number. For example: 8/14 would indicate that this is the scoresheet for week 8 of a 14 week session. It is very important, especially for make-up matches that you have the right scoresheet for the week.
C This is the date that the match is scheduled for.
D This is the time when the match is to be played.
E This lists the number of your team number in the division
F

Points wons last week. This lists the team points that each team earned last week including bonus points. Note: If you did a make-up match last week those points will not be listed in this position, they will be reflected in line G.
G

Total points each team has won to date. Keep in mind that some teams may have make-up matches to complete. Check under standings to see which teams still have make-ups to complete
H Please mark which team this score sheet is for.
I

S/L-Skill level  This is the skill level the player is to play at for this week. A "0" in this spot means that the player does not have a skill level or is non-rated. All non-rated men start as a skill level 4 in 8 and 9-Ball. All non-rated women start as a skill level 3 in 8-Ball and a skill level 2 in 9-Ball. Keep in mind that it generally takes 7 or more scores for a player to reach his/her true skill level. A new player can go from a 2 to a 6 in a week's time and visa-versa. If there is a question, call the OPAL office immediately before playing a match with a questionable skill level.
J

MP-Matches played  This number indicates the number of times that this player has played this session with this team. This does not include matches played with another team, prior scores, tournament or singles board play.
K

This is the player's membership number. This number is assigned by the league office to each registered player. This number will follow you as long as you play in the OPAL/APA league area. It is also the number that is to be put in space O. If there is no number in this space and the player has never played in APA, please write "NEW" in space O next to the player's name.
L

Player's name. The team captain's name will be listed first in bold lettering with the co-captain listed second. A "*" next to a players name means that we do not have a current address on this player. Please have them fill out a new application form. An "N" indicates that we have not received membership dues for that player.
M Only the last two digits of the team number needs to be entered in this space.
N

Player Name: It is particularly important to list first and last names in this space the first time the player plays and during the first 2 weeks of the session. Please do not put nicknames in this space. If a player has not been assigned a player number, it is imperative the first and last names appear in this space.
O Please refer to K.
P

Points to win - The number of points this player must score to win the match. Refer to the 'points required to win' chart on the back of the scoresheet to determine how many points each player must score to win. SKILL LEVELS DO NOT GO IN THIS SPACE.
Q

Put the last two digits of the number of the team who put up the first player in the match.
R

Total Innings - This is the total number of innings it took for both players to complete this race. Be sure and mark 8B-eight on the break, 8S-scratch on the 8, E8-early 8, BR-break and run or TR-table run. Mark these in the individual spaces for each game as they occur. Be sure and fill out a special performance form for 8 on the breaks, break & runs, table runs and shutouts and include in your weekly envelope. REMEMBER AN INNING IS NOT MARKED UNTIL THE SECOND PLAYER MISSES OR LOSES THEIR TURN!
S

A tick mark when an 9 on the break occurs will help remind you to fill out a special performance form for this player.
T

A tick mark when a break and run occurs will help remind you to fill out a special performance form for this player.
U

Defensive shots-a complete explanation of defensive shots is included with your team packet. It is also listed on page 31 of your team manual. The best defense against a potential "sandbagger" is to make sure the scoresheet properly marks every defensive shot. Anyone, including a member of the audience may alert the scorekeeper to a defensive shot.
V Score-The number of points scored by this player in this race.
W Match points won by this player. Refer to the 'score of match' chart on the back of the score sheet to determine the total match score of a race.
X

Weekly Dues-The weekly team fee is always $30 (except Ladies division). The amount of money that is included in your envelope that is to be applied to your weekly dues is to be listed on this line.
Y

Other-The total of any other funds that you have included in your weekly envelope. If your team short paid or overpaid your dues the prior week, the computer automatically puts that information in this space. Short paying your weekly team dues will result in loss of bonus points. This space is also for when you pay your team deposit.
Z

Other-We need a detailed listing of how the extra money in your envelope is to be applied. If you have included membership dues, list the player's first and last name, plus the amount this person has paid. BE SURE AND INCLUDE A COMPLETE MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION FOR EACH PLAYER!
AA Captain's initials.
BB Total amount of money included in your envelope this week.
CC

Signed by both team captains. Sign your name on the line that has your team number. This is already filled in when you receive your scoresheet.
DD

Total number of match points each team won. In 9-Ball, the 2 scores added together should equal 100.
EE This space tells you which team and the location where you will play next week.
FF

What size table did you play this race on? For most locations this should be 3½x7. It is extremely important that this information be filled out properly. It goes into your skill level and if not marked properly, could improperly rate a player.
GG

Message Center-Important messages that you need to know. The number of phone calls that come into the office would be cut in half if people would just read this message every week. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE THIS SECTION. TEAMS HAVE LOST BONUS POINTS AND/OR BEEN KNOCKED OUT OF PLAYOFFS BECAUSE THEY FAILED TO READ THIS SECTION.

The scoresheet is the most important piece of communication that we have with you. Please take the time to fill it out properly.
